Item description: * French Art Deco platinum ring comprising an important 20 carat carved bead emerald set in the Indian Moghul style. The setting has the same Indian influenced motifs including an additional 16 brilliant cut diamonds paired on both sides of the carved emerald bead and having an approximate total weight of 1 carat.
The ring has been resized in the past and unfortunately all hallmarks and maker’s marks at the bottom are gone, except for an original scratched inventory number at one of the inside points that reads 1868. Similar Art Deco designs, carved emerald beads and particular Art Deco style and mastership, as well as special inventory numbers are common for well known French jewelry firms like the Cartier, David Webb, Van Cleef & Arpels, Mauboussin, Vever and others. Given the present inventory number and the exact style which is identical to other similar and known Tutti Frutti jewels by this master, the piece can be well attributed to Henri Picq who worked for the Cartier firm of that time and was particularly known to use carved emeralds and other gemstones in his Art Deco jewels. Henri Picq's workshop was one of the most important in Paris during the Art Deco era of the 20ies and famous of manufacturing the most intricate gem set platinum jewellery. Henri Picq worked for Cartier and became well known for his exceptional "Tutti Frutti" jewels. The emerald gem has a great intense green color and average VS clarity and measures an enormous 18mm long x 10.5mm wide x 12mm high. The ring also includes the 2 sets of 8 brilliant cut diamonds of highest quality garnished on both sides of the emerald. The ring has a gross weight of 8.2 grams and is a size 52 (US size 6 / UK size L/M).
